December 18

Today I designed the first synth of my project. It has some reverb and a little bit of delay on it. The shape is diagonal with little peaks at the top and bottom, with the shape tension and skew toward the bottom. I also wrote the drum parts and the parts for the first synth to play.

Project 6

This is the sytrus and riff machine project. The one synth plays an under pattern while the second synth plays weird patterns over it. During this a light drum beat happens along with a bass pattern. The interlude section is slower paced with the same basic idea of one synth "soloing" over the second. The song then goes back to the original pattern to close it out.

December 11

Today i finished the project but didn't have time to upload it yet. I think it is good but the interlude is a little weird, so I will probably think of a new one that flows with the rest of the piece.

December 8

Today I ordered the parts into the pattern they needed to be in. I also made a pattern b but I am not sure it fits with the rest of the song. I will have to ponder this till next class.

Project 5: Vocoder

The audio clip is supposed to be a tale of someone logging onto a computer with hopes of creating an explosion using a self destruct sequence on the computer. However, right as it is set to explode the battery dies and the computer shuts off. This song starts with the sounds of a keyboard typing unaffected by the vocoder. once the person logs in the computer voice starts talking with the growling vocoder effect. After the voice speaks again, an explosion is heard and the guitar comes in heavy. Through out the song bass and drums with vocoder effects are being played, sort of acting as a main menu type sound. The countdown begins but then doesn't go off because the battery dies. The computer says goodbye then shuts off in a dj record spin type noise.

November 10th

Today I downloaded a few more sounds for the project. I came up with a bass line that transposes and a basic drum loop, with the snare drum running through the vocoder. The theme I'm going to try to make with this song is going through a computer, with someone trying to log on and then get to a classified area as the instruments get heavier. We will see if i am able to actually make this work.

Project 4: Automation

For this project I used the same basic drum loop throughout the whole sound, with the Boobass and the SimSynth for the guitar and bass parts. The beginning of the song fades in with the basic chords and bass riff playing through once. This basic chord and bass part plays twice more, only this time another guitar part plays over it. This guitar part is somewhat of a solo type riff, and i used an automation on the filter cutoff to give the riff a different sound as it is being played, as it gets lower and then higher pitched as it goes on. The next set of guitar parts doesn't have the chords under them, and the pan back and forth between the two right and left headphone. The song cuts to just guitar and bass for one pattern then fades out with all instruments playing the basic chords that the song began with two times.

Project 3: FX

This song has a tempo that is a bit slower than normal because to me it sounded like it should have a more slow drawn out sound to it. The bass with a slight amount of reverb drives the song forward, and the guitar has a wah wah effect on it. There is a clap with an echo on it every two measures which keeps the beat along with the drums. The drum fill to get back into the main verse riff of the song has heavy reverb on it as well.

Project 2: The Chop Tool, FPC, And Transpose Functions

This is my file for project 2. It begins with the drum beat alone, then the bass comes in right before the guitars come in. They switch between playing three notes on different positions on the guitar. The drums change to a more up-beat drum beat while the guitars and bass continue. The guitars then break into a solo type pattern while the drums and bass stay constant to keep the time. The guitar has one time alone then another solo happens before breaking back into the verse again, then ends with a quick solo. I tried not to use too many different guitar parts because that would make it too complex.

Project 1: Drum Loop

This is my drum loop for music tech class. It is 6 different fills along with 6 unique fills. The beats are influenced by bands such as System of a Down or Metallica. They are not overly fancy, because a drum beat shouldn't be more complex than needed, or they take away from from the other instruments. It is mainly a rock/metal drum feel, but one of the beats has a latin feel. The fills aren't extremely fancy and the bass drum keeps the time during them. Enjoy!
